Bacolod mayor wins 2 trophies in Asia Leaders Awards

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia received the Lifetime Excellence for City Governance award and Mentor of the Year award while the City Government was a finalist for Tourism Company of the Year award at the 2018 Asia Leaders Awards Gala Night and Awarding Ceremony at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel recently.


Leonardia’s co-awardee was real estate mogul Andrew Tan, chairman and chief executive officer of Megaworld Corp., who received the Lifetime Excellence for Real Estate award.


The mayor thanked the people of Bacolod, crediting them as the reason why positive developments are happening in the city under his administration.


Accompanying Leonardia in accepting the awards were Representative Greg Gasataya, Councilors Em Ang and Bartolome Orola, City Administrator John Orola, City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan, Secretary to the Mayor Edward Joseph Cuansing, congressional chief-of-staff Hugo Corral, and mayor’s daughter, Loren Kara.


The ALA, a culmination of Asia Leaders Forum, recognizes and acknowledges leading men and women in various industries who have exhibited exemplary leadership and contributed in promoting the country as a premier business hub in Asia.


There were 20 categories in the Asia Leaders Awards.


The ALA Lifetime Excellence award recognizes a notable individual for his or her outstanding personality and exceptional commitment in improving the business environment of the country.


The ALA Mentor of the Year Award recognizes persons who demonstrate a strong commitment to help the Filipinos and beyond, and possesses courage, leadership and moral value to develop and impart new perspective in both business and career.


Meanwhile, the board of judges of the Asia Leaders Awards is composed of 10 civic and business leaders, including Rick Sobreviñas, chairman of the American Association of the Philippines; Robert Laurel Yupangco, awardee of the Asia Pacific


Entrepreneurship Award (APEA) for Tourism, Hospitality and Food Service; Dr. Elton See Tan, vice chairman of Federation of Filipino- Chinese Chamber of Commerce; Edward Ling, president of Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industries in the Philippines, group managing director of Elabram Systems; Ajay Kesavan – country head of GI Philippines Corp.; Rudolf Kotik, founder and CEO of RK Franchise Consultancy; Singer Jake Zyrus, previously known as Charice; James Jimenez, spokesperson of the Commission on Elections (Comelec); director of Comelec; and Dante "Klink" Ang II, president and CEO of The Manila Times.
